ABOUT KASHMIRONOMICS

History proves again and again – political integration MUST be followed by economic integration.

Kashmironomics is a think tank dedicated to finding answers to the only pertinent question that looms large over the fate of our beloved valley. The economy of Jammu Kashmir & Laddakh has multiple monetization avenues, each of which can be harnessed to give much needed impetus to economic growth. But like any other opportunity, this one comes with its own challenges and we are ready to take them head on!

The world is looking at us with anxiety and anticipation. We can’t afford to be complacent. Mentally agile, solution oriented and backed by enthusiasm of experience and exuberance of youth – Kashmironomics is set to change the way issues have been addressed in Valley.

KEY PEOPLE

Siddharth-Zarabi-Pic-min

Siddharth Zarabi is a leading Indian journalist and editor who was born in the beautiful valley of Kashmir and saw the tragic events of 1989-90 unfold in front of his eyes. A personal witness of the armed terrorist insurgency, he saw his family uprooted from the ancient land of his forefathers, and the social, religious and economic fabric of the state being torn apart by blood thirsty, gun-wielding fanatics.

Ever since, as a member of the diaspora of the valley that draws inspiration from its roots, he has devoted himself to the cause of greater integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country. He has the distinction of having tabled and argued a resolution condemning Pakistan sponsored terror in India at a United Nations youth conference in Portugal way back in 1998. He has also been a speaker during meetings with visiting delegations from the European Union and has made numerous presentations on the situation in Kashmir at various institutions, including universities and civil society forums.

An ardent believer in the equal and fair treatment of all and appeasement of none, he has selflessly contributed to facilitating economic investment in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh by offering pro-bono advice to investors in the hotel and tourism, media, power, information technology and telecom sector over the years. He is of the view that development and corruption free governance will blunt Pakistani and jihadist propaganda and go a long way in uplifting the citizenry of the three regions.

He believes that the talented and hard working people of the two union territories need opportunities and only a combination of political, security and economic interventions will create the right atmosphere for lasting, durable peace in the entire region.
